About the Health Check-up

Measures the proportion of added T3 that is not bound to transport proteins in the blood (primarily TBG – thyroxine-binding globulin). The analysis is used to assess the ratio of bound to free hormone and can supplement TSH, T3, and T4 in the diagnosis of thyroid disease.

Is the check correct for me?

The test may be relevant if there is suspicion that altered protein binding affects the metabolic values – for example, due to pregnancy, severe illness, or the use of medication that alters TBG. It can help interpret T4 and T3 levels more accurately.

What is being tested

P-Triiodothyronine reaction (T3-uptake), a relative value based on T3 binding to TBG.

Add-ons
Preparation for the test
The Czech Republic's shortcomings

The T3 reaction does not measure the actual T3 concentration, but an indirect value that depends on TBG. The results can be difficult to interpret alone and should always be considered in conjunction with TSH, T4, and free T3.

Where can I get tested?

Blood samples can be taken at public hospitals with which we have agreements.
Currently, these are Herlev & Gentofte Hospital and all of Region Southern Denmark, Region Central Denmark, and Region Northern Denmark.
If you want to have free T3 measured, this can only be done in Region Southern Denmark, Region Central Denmark, and Region Northern Denmark.
Therefore, not at Herlev & Gentofte Hospital.
